Exiting the USA
Melbourne
Our plan
Julia and I are embarking on an exciting adventure as we prepare for
a one-month stay in Melbourne, Australia. This trip is not just a vacation;
it's a chance for us to immerse ourselves in the vibrant culture of Melbourne,
reconnect with family and friends, and seriously consider the possibility of
making Australia our permanent home, especially in light of the recent
re-election of the fascist criminal orangutan in the United States.
Our journey begins with the anticipation of becoming temporary
Melburnians. Melbourne, known for its diverse culture, stunning architecture,
and thriving arts scene, offers a unique blend of old-world charm and modern
sophistication. We plan to explore the city's iconic landmarks, such as the
Royal Botanic Gardens, Federation Square, and the bustling Queen Victoria
Market. These places are not just tourist attractions; they are integral parts
of Melbourne's identity, and we are eager to experience them as locals.
One of our primary goals during this month-long stay is to reconnect
with our family and friends who reside in Melbourne. It's been a while since
we've seen them, and this trip provides the perfect opportunity to strengthen
those bonds.
In addition to spending quality time with loved ones, we are also
keen to explore Melbourne's rich cultural scene. The city is famous for its
festivals, art galleries, and live music venues. We have already marked our
calendars for events such as the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and
the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival. These events will not only entertain us
but also give us a deeper understanding of the city's vibrant cultural fabric.
As we settle into our temporary home, we plan to embrace the local
lifestyle fully. This means adopting the laid-back yet sophisticated approach
to life that Melburnians are known for. We will frequent the local cafes,
savoring Melbourne's renowned coffee culture, and take leisurely strolls along
the Yarra River. We are also excited to explore the city's diverse
neighborhoods, each with its own unique character and charm. From the hipster
vibes of Fitzroy to the beachside allure of St Kilda, we want to experience it
all.
While our primary focus is on enjoying our time in Melbourne, we
cannot ignore the underlying reason for this extended stay. The recent
re-election of the fascist criminal orangutan has left us feeling disillusioned
with the direction in which the United States is heading. The political climate
has become increasingly polarized, and we find ourselves yearning for a more
stable and inclusive environment. Australia, with its progressive values and
high quality of life, seems like a promising alternative.
During our stay, we will be exploring the practicalities of
relocating to Australia. While the decision to leave our home, for the last 30
years, is not an easy one, we believe that it is essential to consider all
options for the sake of our future well-being.
As we embark on this journey, we are filled with a mix of excitement
and apprehension. The prospect of starting anew in a different country is both
thrilling and daunting. However, we are confident that this month-long stay in
Melbourne will provide us with valuable insights and experiences that will
guide our decision-making process. Whether we ultimately decide to make
Australia our permanent home or not, this trip will undoubtedly be a
transformative experience.
