Macedo Ranch
Mount Diablo State Park
February 2017

This was a perfect time of year for hiking in Mount Diablo State Park. The sun shone brightly with warming rays while the air remained crisp and cool - ideal hiking conditions. Recent rains had transformed the landscape into lush greenery, with every creek and river flowing strongly, adding to the park's natural beauty.

We were amazed by the abundance of flowers blooming this early in the year. Against the emerald green backdrop, colorful wildflowers created a vibrant tapestry across the Macedo Ranch landscape. Mount Diablo State Park proves equally stunning whether visited in winter or summer.
Our route included the Secret Valley Loop - a 6-mile trail with 1,410 feet of elevation gain near Walnut Creek, California. Rated as moderate, this trail offers various activity options and remains accessible to horseback riders.
Secret Valley provides spectacular views of Mt. Diablo, much of the East Bay, and distant Napa Valley. Hiking through the valley evokes the experience of early explorers and settlers, particularly along sections that follow old stagecoach roads.
