2010-2011 Ski Season

Heavenly and Mammoth

February 20 - 23, 2011: Heavenly, California Skiing

Julia and I made our third trip to Heavenly this year. We arrived this time just after a big snow storm that dumped 61 inches of new snow! Julia made her first black run, through the trees, and over moguls! She has become a mogul of moguls.

We had amazing skiing on this trip because of all the fresh snow.

February 27 - 28, 2011: Heavenly, California Skiing

My friend Andy arrived from the Australian summer and was ready for some skiing in the USA. So we obliged him by taking him on a grand tour of California's best ski resorts.

The first stop was our old faithful: Heavenly. It snowed not too long before we got there, and we all enjoyed the fresh new snowfall that greeted us on our arrival.

March 1 - 3, 2011: Mammoth Mountain, California

Getting to Mammoth video

Day One:

Boy, it snowed all during the night and blew a gale too. This made us worry about our day of skiing. In the morning, it was still snowing and did so all day.

What fell from the sky was a mix of snow and rain and this made the conditions wet and the snow heavy. However, given the sub optimal conditions we managed to ski all day and really enjoy ourselves.

Day Two:

Oh my Darwin, 12″ of snow fell overnight so when we got onto the slopes in the morning we were treated to fluffy and dry powder snow; lots of it!

A very happy skier

Andy had traded his skis for a snowboard so he could take advantage of the amazing conditions, being that he was a bit rusty on his skis. We skied from 9:00am to 3:00pm and only left because we had skied ourselves into oblivion.

This was the best day skiing all season, what a mountain Mammoth is!
