Flying the Edge of America

Route 01

267.3 NM and 2:18 from Oakland, CA to Crescent City, CA. This route was in an IFR in complete IMC and had a 500 feet ceiling ILS landing with a DME arc.

Route 02

263.2 NM 2:16 from Crescent City, CA to Astoria OR. This was a mixed IFR and VFR flight with a visual approach at Astoria with ceilings at 4,000 feet.

Route 03

178.4 NM 1:33 from Astoria, OR to Port Angeles, WA. This route was IFR in IMC all the way to Port Angeles ending in a ILS approach with ceilings at 4,000.

Route 04

58.5 NM 0:32 from Port Angeles, WA to Victoria, Canada, BC. This flight was an IFR flight in VMC and crossed the US Canadian border. The flight ended in a visual approach with ceilings broken at 4,000 feet.

Route 05

36.2 NM 0:21 from Victoria, Canada to Bellingham, WA. This flight was IFR in VMC conditions and ended in a visual approach. This flight returned us to the USA.

Route 06

123.7 NM 1:09 from Bellingham, WA to Oroville, WA. This was a VFR flight and was over very high terrain. The route altitude was 11,500 feet and we encountered many up drafts and down drafts.

Route 07

256.5 NM 2:13 from Oroville, WA to Glacier, MT. This was a VFR flight over high terrain. The route altitude was 11,500 feet. I took this route as I was not happy with the performance of the aircraft over the high terrain.

Route 08

268.3 NM 2:20 from Glacier, MT to West Yellowstone, MT. This was a VFR flight in VMC. The flight was through high terrain but via lower valleys. I used four user defined GPS fixes to navigate through the high terrain.

Route 09

216.5 NM 1:49 from West Yellowstone to Billings, MT. This was a VFR flight in VMC. High terrain again but we plotted a course via the lowest ground.

Route 10

258.0 NM 2:12 from Billings, MT to Rapid City, South Dakota. This flight was VFR in VMC.

Route 11

338.9 NM 2:50 from Rapid City, South Dakota to Grand Forks, North Dakota. This flight was IFR in IMC we avoided three thunderstorm cells.

Route 12

12 289.9 NM 2:29 from Grand Forks, North Dakota to Grand Marais, Minnesota. This flight was IFR in IMC we pasted through a thunderstorm cell.

Route 13

264.4 NM 2:14 from Grand Marais, Minnesota to Hancock - Houghton, Michigan. This was an IFR flight in partial IMC with an ILS landing.

219.6 NM 1:52 from Hancock - Houghton, Michigan to Oshkosh, Wisconsin. This was an VFR flight in VMC with special Oshkosh arrival procedures.

Route 20

88.8 NM 0:47 from Stratford Ontario Canada to Niagara Falls, New York. This was an IFR flight in VMC. We were just in front of some really nasty weather but the flight was smooth.

Route 21

154.6 NM 1:18 from Niagara Falls, New York to Watertown, New York. This was an IFR flight in VMC. Thunderstorms were just behind us but we did not encounter any.

Route 22

354.6 NM 3:01 from Watertown, New York to Bar Harbor, Maine. This was an IFR flight in IMC. Lots of weather and a 3 hour flight. It ended with ILS-22 and a 400 foot ceiling.

Route 23

220.3 NM 1:54 from Bar Harbor, Maine to North Central State, Pawtucket, Rhode Island. This was an IFR flight in mostly VMC. Boston airspace was traversed.

Route 24

57.4 NM 0:30 from North Central State, Pawtucket, Rhode Island to Provincetown, Massachusetts. This was an VFR flight in mostly VMC over water.

Route 25

276.1 NM 2:20 from Provincetown, Massachusetts to Islip in New York. This was an VFR flight in mostly VMC over water. After landing we flew the Hudson River Corridor past New York City.

Route 26

115.9 NM 1:00 from Islip in New York to Bensalem, Philadelphia. This was an IFR flight in hazy VMC over water.

381.1 NM 3:16 Manteo, North Carolina to Gatlinburg in Tennessee via Greensboro, North Carolina. This was a VFR flight in VMC over the Smoky Mountains. We diverted due to hurricanes.
